About CranioSacral Therapy

At the forefront of emerging non-invasive and natural therapies, CranioSacral Therapy (CST) is a gentle, hands-on method of evaluating and enhancing the function of body called the “CranioSacral system.”  This system is comprised of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid which form the fluid-filled sac around the core of the central nervous system (CNS) – surrounding, nourishing, and protecting the brain and spinal cord. The CNS is the seat of consciousness, all of our mental activity, our emotions, all of our sensations, including pain, are based on the CNS making it integral to your overall health.

Like the pulse of the cardiovascular system, the CranioSacral system has a rhythm that can be felt throughout the body. Using a touch generally no heavier than the weight of a small coin, I can monitor this rhythm at key body areas to pinpoint the source of a restriction or stress.  Once a source has been determined, I can assist, with gentle and subtle massage, the natural movement of the fluid and related tissue to help the body self-correct.

This simple action is sometimes all it takes to remove a restriction. Often times, I may integrate CST with other complementary massage, energy and dialoguing techniques, to help restore the body to its optimum level of functioning.

How Effective is CST?

For most people this kind of manual therapy is highly effective. It is also non-invasive and gentle making it suitable for adults, children, elderly, and people facing health crises. This is possible because many issues are caused or greatly influenced by one of three circumstances:

1. Some part of the body (muscle, nerve, joint, spine, organ) is in some way restricted by pressure, scarring, injury, spasm, compression.

2. The condition is very sensitive to the effects of stress and the immune system.

3. The condition has a strong mind-body (somato-emotional) connection.
